Japanese is a language spoken primarily in Japan and by Japanese communities around the world.

Japan is the third largest economy in the world while also being home to one of the world's richest and most unique cultures. The Japanese language is an important part of this culture and is a great source of national pride.

The language is written using three systems. Some words are written in Kanji which is a script similar to Chinese characters . The other two systems are both alphabets. Hiragana is used for writing native Japanese words and Katakana is used for writing foreign loan words and names.

Japanese is characterized by the placement of vowels between almost every consonant sound, lending to its straightforward pronunciation.
